

The Maryland League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (LCV) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan organization incorporated in 2000 to build the effectiveness and power of Maryland's environmental movement. We are dedicated to maximizing the participation of conservation-minded voters in public policy decisions made at the state and local levels regarding Maryland's environment and natural resources. Our programs strengthen and build the power of the environmental community, and they expand, deepen, and activate a base of conservation-minded voters around the state. 2006 Program Accomplishments - In 2006, Maryland LCV Education Fund continued our core programs to increase the capacity and build the power of the environmental community though List Enhancement, an updated Environmental Briefing Book, and the Environmental Community Online System. - We provided strategic support and training to grassroots organizations and environmental coalitions including the Citizens' Campaign for the Environment, the Healthy Air Coalition, and Partners for Open Space. - We launched a program that identified, educated, and motivated 24,000 new conservation-minded voters in Maryland. - In the 2006 elections, Maryland LCV Education Fund contacted 127,000 conservation voters to get out the conservation vote through innovative programs to increase non-partisan environmental voter turnout. - Leading a coordinated grassroots campaign, we raised awareness of and support for land conservation by educating over 280,000 voters about Ballot Question #1 to protect open spaces from development--which passed by overwhelming 85 percent! |
